"Out of the Dirt"- Garden Update Spring 2012
Well. It's getting that time again. The days are legnthening, and the sun is feeling a little warmer on my shoulders. I've been walking around our property the last couple of weekends checking things out. Of course our crocuses have bloomed, and the daffodils and hycinths began peeking through the ground several weeks ago. Signs of spring are everywhere. We are getting ready for it. I will miss our legnthy weekends and extra time at home. But those longer weekends indicate slower business through the winter months, and we are certainly feeling that. So bring your friends and family to enjoy a meal here as we are experiencing nicer days for outings.
The ground is workable and has been most of winter. I am planning to sow snap peas this weekend. It is a week early from the traditional St. Patrick's day, but I think it will be fine. The weather will be nice and we don't have too many obligations on our plate (except the remodeling of our bathroom, cleaning, midnight shift Sunday...well, I guess I could keep extending the list). I think Kent will till a small portion of ground, then eventually rent a tractor to plow later to break into new ground. I will continue my list of items to plant this spring/summer. I want to add berries to the garden and fruit trees. What is better than a ripened peach plucked from the tree, the warm juice dripping down your neck after the first bite? Mmmm. We have the perfect place for about 6-8 trees. I still have some convincing to do, as this means more work.
I hope to do a better job this year of keeping updates of the garden posted. But when summer comes, things are just way too busy. After every day we are spent, especially Kent. Sometimes, I think we are crazy. He could anything... but we are set out on the mission of TABLE, and hope to see it through. The support from friends and family and patrons will make this happen.
